CASTL accepting 2024 applications for bioscience training and employment program
Charlottetown, PE — The Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences (CASTL), a national biomanufacturing skills and training organization, launches the next two cohorts of the PEI Bioscience Reskilling Program. This innovative program is designed to equip unemployed or underemployed individuals based in PEI with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the bioscience industry, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the sector.
The 10-week program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering key areas such as health and safety, an overview of the biomanufacturing industry, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), instrumentation, and lab skills. Participants will benefit from hands-on training at CASTL’s state-of-the-art training facility located in the Charlottetown Biocommons, expert instruction from CASTL’s training team, valuable networking opportunities and a four-week on-the-job training placement with bioscience industry employers on Prince Edward Island.
CASTL is proud to, once again, deliver industry informed skills and training to develop a much-needed talent pool for PEI’s fast growing bioscience sector. By reskilling individuals from various backgrounds, we are not only addressing the talent gap in the bioscience sector but also providing meaningful career opportunities for our graduates.” Penny Walsh McGuire |
Since launching in March 2021, seven cohorts have completed the CASTL Bioscience Reskilling Program totalling nearly 100 program graduates, with a 95% program satisfaction rate across all seven cohorts. Program graduates noted an increase in finding valuable employment - 80% of program graduates from the seventh cohort received job offers within one month of completing the program. Employers who hired Reskilling graduates reported that trainees’ onboarding time was reduced by an average of 55% after completing the program.
There is real synergy in CASTL’s work. Its programs not only help employers bridge talent gaps to fuel the industry, but also offer a career path for individuals whose skills and experience are either unrecognized or underutilized. It’s a tremendous asset for this community. Mohammed Moin |
The CASTL PEI Bioscience Reskilling Program is funded by the Department of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population through the Canada-PEI Labour Market Agreements.
We’re pleased to continue to support CASTL in paving the way forward for a more prosperous future for the bioscience sector here in PEI. It is important that we keep the momentum going with the program's success, continuing to invest in our people, and building a stronger workforce. Jenn Redmond |
